Bio

Current GM of World of Light. When it comes to writing, there's nothing I love more than imagination, engagement, and commitment. I'm always open to talk, suggestion, criticism, and collaboration. While I try to be as obliging, helpful, and courteous as possible, I have very little sympathy for ghosts, and anyone who'd like to string me along. Straightforwardness is all I ask for.

Looking for more personal details? I'm just some dude from the American south; software development is my job but games, writing, and trying to help others enjoy life are my passions. Been RPing for over a decade, starting waaaay back with humble beginnings on the Spore forum, so I know a thing or two, though I won't pretend to be an expert. If you're down for some fun, let's make something spectacular together.

Fleo Plector – Ballroom

As the saying goes, there's a first time for everything, and for a dusty-ridden country gal tonight was no exception. More than a decade had passed since Fleo Plector last danced, or even attended an event at which dancing would be a significant affair, and so it was with great trepidation that she entered the ballroom unescorted. Due to the anxiety inspired in her by such a high-brow occasion, she arrived earlier than she would have liked. Thoughts about socializing, politics, Crocus's elite, and the big names from other guilds all whirled around her, threatening to make her dizzy, but she had managed to dress well enough. Phoenix Wing's dust wizard wore an old-fashioned, long-sleeved, chocolate brown gown that reached all the way to the floor. A red ribbon wrapped around her shoulders and wound around itself at the center of her collarbone into a roselike shape, but other than that it was unadorned. She couldn't exactly afford anything fancier, after all, and nor did she want to. Simple and traditional dress suited her just fine. With any luck, nobody would pay her any attention at all, and save her some embarrassment. The last thing she wanted to do would be to hurt Phoenix Wing's image by coming off as some kind of bumpkin.

Hyun Sasithom – Ballroom

Punctual as always, the soldiers of Frenzy Plant arrived en masse. They entered the castle in no formation at all, but nevertheless a very formal air surrounded them. Not at all the least contributing factor to this serious aura was the fact that, with a few exceptions, every member of the war guild was attending the ball in a ceremonial uniform. Dominantly a dark, pastel green, and adorned by various medals according to their owners' merits, this attire exuded a class founded in discipline. Few of the soldiers who wore them knew their touch well, but as an acute observer might have guessed, they'd done some rehearsal beforehand, so hardly anything was awry. The gentlemen wore black undershirts and red ties with their ceremonial dress, complete with corresponding black shoes and gloves, while the ladies' uniforms featured knee-length skirts over black stockings. Furthermore, every soldier wore a red beret.

Hyun stood as an exception. Frenzy Plant's S-rank members had been given the option to choose their own attire, and while Zander did not deviate from the standard uniform save for red trim, both Hyun and Indigo took advantage of the privilege. Tonight, the war guild's champion swordswoman wore a Sevenese kimono of extravagant severity. Predominantly cream-colored with a plethora of violet and lavender imagery, it sported enormous sleeves that touched the ground, and a burgundy sash tied into a huge bow behind Hyun's waist. Even her hair was done up, styled and pinned with a silver comb into a pattern that to a Fiore native could only be described as a croissant-shaped bun atop her head. A Sevenese eye, meanwhile, would recognize it as a modified kushi-maki style.

If her guildmates' apparel denoted reservation and staunchness, Indigo's choice of attire went the other way entirely. Clad in a sapphire-blue, backless (and, to Hyun's cynical eye, rather close to frontless) top with its strap behind her neck and a voluminous, pitch-black gown below, she exhibited grandiose showiness. Her long, blonde hair had been formed into a single, sizable braid that swung behind her with every step, a pendulum punctuated by the steady clack-clack-clack of sparkling azure heels. Among the green dress uniforms that surrounded her, she stood out like a sore thumb; practically anyone would have a hard time looking away. If Hyun had to pick a word to describe her, it would be 'dazzling'.

She could offer much more respect for the chosen garb of Frenzy Plant's master. Like her, Sanders had opted to represent the culture of his homeland. He wore an intricate chiffon robe of ash-gray that went past his knees. Its unique collar supported a necklace that resembled a belt, each one of its many 'buckles' sporting a different medal. He wore a short, cylindrical hat as well, mistakable as a another beret at first glance.

Several wizards from other guilds had arrived. Hyun waited idly, the very picture of dignity, and wondered what the night might bring.

Nero Lemure – Outside the Castle

A wooden sign, hastily painted and erected in the grass beside the walkway leading to the castle, read 'Genie Garb!' in big letters, with an addendum beneath: 'Wishing you had something to wear to the ball? Look no farther!' Next to the sign stood Nero the Genie himself, dressed in a cheap purple suit with matching bow tie. In a unique twist, he wore his usual tattered cape, no doubt to maintain the image of a mystical guru. The dark mage's winning salesman's smile told each and every passer by that should he or she require his services, all one needed to do was make a wish.

Of course, the stick-thin sorcerer wasn't alone. An adorable little girl bounced around the sign and its maker, seemingly unbothered by her usual shyness. The excitement of the ball had infected her, lifting her typical somber mood. Opposite Nero stood a remarkably portly young lady with dark hair, warm brown eyes, and a pleasant expression who Nero introduced as his lovely assistant. Whenever someone stopped by the sign post out of curiosity or dubiousness, Nero demonstrated the Law of Raiment by transforming Evelyn's clothes. One moment she wore a simple dress, the next a pantsuit, the next a marvelous ballgown. More than a few ballgoers, enchanted by the Genie's feat of magic, offered a paltry sum of jewel for him to modify their clothing. Several onlookers without the money for special clothes, upon seeing this, came to him as well. In short, business was booming. Nero, out for gladness rather than cash, still managed to rake in a notable profit, and in terms of bringing joy to others he couldn't be more successful. ”Whoo!” he breathed after another satisfied customer went off. ”I oughta thank the king and queen, nyeh heh! 'Cause they cut the Games short and came up with this ball to cover the loss, there's loads of hopefuls pining away for something nice to wear! What a time to be a Genie!” He turned his beaming grin at Evelyn, who returned the favor.
@toadropes messed up on your tag so tagging you here :)

@lugubrious My latest post included some attempted lore/characterization of Stillwater, so do you wanna look over that and see if I made any glaring errors?

There's no problem.
<Snipped quote by Lugubrious>

Team arrived at drop point. Traveled through forest. Discovered signs of approaching Grimm. Robert ordered for them to hide to try and ambush approaching pack. Dropped down on top of Beowolves. Delta remained in trees for some reason, separating him from the rest of the team who were on the ground. Beowolves grabbed him and dragged him off, never to be seen again. Entire story, Robert makes it sound like its his fault, but if Ozpin looks into the subtle clues in the story (i.e. other option was to drop inside of fort instead of the outside which would have gotten them surrounded, team got snagged on branches and such, Delta didn't drop down with everyone else when Robert said to) he'll probably see that a lot of what happened was more unfortunate circumstances and him trying to make what he thought were the best calls with the limited options at his disposal.

In that case, Robert is still suspended as team leader, but he is not expelled, as if that were a real possibility.
@Guess Who, could you summarize what Robert would have said/ is going to say to Ozpin in the infirmary so that I/Ozpin will be able to make a final determination that affects team STRG?
Monday

On this most cheery of mornings, even the sun shone brighter. It shone through the shutter blinds and curtains on the students' windows; it bathed the green, green grass of their home away from home in light. Yet, nature's jubilee carried with it the definitive tone of a last hurrah, for a hint of a chill blew in from the north. With it came the realization that autumn would soon be falling upon the kingdom of Vale. The season of yellow, orange, and red also meant that the time would soon come to buckle in and commit oneself to the daily grind of studies, exercises, and so forth. The students' missions for the most part shouldn't have been as serious as they ended up being, and they served as an omen of even greater seriousness for the future.

All the same, the future could wait. Dreary hours spent poring over books, memorizing information, or drilling movements into one's muscles needn't occupy the thoughts of the students today as they celebrated their last real holiday. Many an alarm carried a note of joviality, and not just because everyone got to sleep in. Room by room, the dormitory emptied, its denizens headed toward Beacon's outdoor athletic center in small groups. For sure, the thought of coffee, Shiny D, and fresh crepes made Abel's stomach -so used to oatmeal or hotel eggs and sausage patties- grumble uproariously. He went through his usual tidying-up routine at a leisurely pace, making sure to greet Scoot the ferret and give him a good tickle. Not for the first time, the guardian thought about how great of a blessing it was that the doctors at the island laboratory took advantage of the earnest mustelid's intelligence to potty-train him. After that, Abel put on his favorite jacket, waited while his animal friend situation himself on his shoulder, and made ready to embark. Of course, he wouldn't be participating in the great race at 9:45, but he wanted to watch, and of course he didn't want to miss out on the complimentary breakfast.

Meanwhile, at the newly-renovated special obstacle course, the gym teacher Ahriman Kore Agesander wrapped up the final test. So loaded was the course with moving, mechanical components that it took a lot of ironing-out to get everything functional, but with his adoptive brother Solomon -who wasn't up to much during a day off anyway- and a whole heap of other Beacon staff to help, all the technical issues had been resolved just in time. Now, with the finished result on display for him to take pride in, Kore felt his angry mood slipping away. Soon the students would arrive, and not long after the event would begin. The handiwork of the Agesander brothers would make for a challenging run indeed! A ways off, Headmaster Ozpin examined the course from a distance. He held in his mind no concerns for the functionality of the course, but instead yearnings that the students would, on this special holiday, be able to escape from the misgivings and misfortunes that plagued them. Seldom did a school employee wish for escapism, but to leave the awfulness that the hunters-in-training had experienced behind, Ozpin hoped that this whole shebang would be just the ticket. It all lay upon the students to take the final steps and allow the fun to work its magic.
@Lugubrious

Doing much better. With the holiday's ending I no longer have friends and family requesting my presence at events, as well as my job becoming much slower. Basically I should be getting back into the swing of things very soon.

Good to hear.

@Lugubrious

While I don't talk much and I randomly seem to disappear, I'm actually watching this RP everyday from the hundreds of accounts I possess. I actually play 6 diffrent characters in this RP, you just don't know it, kek. Anywho I'm cool, nothing to complain about in life at this point as things are going smoothly for me and I have plenty of free time, I'm just to lazy to use for anything productive.

As for the timeskip, I'm more that okay with it, I'm just curious; I enjoy the seeming fact that you are --maybe-- avoiding falling in step with the cannon, (Beacon's demise) but what is your "plan" for chapter three?

My plans are for me to know(?) and you to find out, nyeheh.
@Lugubrious I'm good. Working on applications for graduate universities and the like. On the RP side, I was waiting for Nytem to get a post out with Grane, but I'm thinking of writing up a post for Sand in the next few days regardless.

Alright. Good luck with your applications!

@Lugubrious RP-wise I'm thinking I should give Awesome a chance to post before I write another one for Robert. Real life-wise... Eh, I've been worse. I've been better too, but I've been much worse. Just family issues for the most part and not ones that should affect my ability to post.

I speak from experience when I say that resolving family issues is a long and painful road, but I hope you'll get there soon.

On another note, I've been digging into the very basics of coding (MATLAB)! I made super simple codes for a slot machine system and a race simulation between four different racers... so I kinda feel like a computer. o-o;

Good stuff! I've made a couple fun things in C++ and Java myself but nothing super fancy.

@Lugubrious

Well, the house is finally quiet after my sister and my brother-in-law left, so I was able to write a very important letter to my University. I should be able to start brainstorming by tonight, or by tomorrow tonight.

Other than that, I'm eager for the Holidays to be over and for things to settle back down into the status quo before all the Holiday madness, despite of how much fun I had with my Sister and Brother-in-law coming from the desert of west Texas, and my grandma from my Mom's side come down from the snow ridden Michigan to enjoy the rather mild winter down in Texas.

I just want to enjoy the peace and quiet in the house while it lasts before I have to go back to school.

I feel you, man. Not a day doesn't go by that I feel like I'm wasting what little free time I have left. Here's hoping these last days work out for us.

@Lugubrious
I'm sort of thinking I should put a place holder in the IC right now for the collab so that it doesn't seem severly out of chronological place. I'll post something OOC when I place it in the empty spot.

That was a good idea.

@Lugubrious
I'm more or less fine. I'm supposed to write for my term paper but... I just ain't getting to it. Mostly due to the "I have no idea what to write" syndrome. But yeah, else, I am fine :P

@Winter-conversation:

This winter has been... weird. Temperatures were pretty much normal throughout most of the latter half of October. In November, they stayed on the warmer-side, except for one single day where it actually managed to snow... which was the only day of this winter so far that it had snowed, kinda repeating the last couple of years.
December has been weird. Very warm for a December, except for the last 1 1/2 weeks, but only at night. No sub-zero temperatures during the day so far, which is unusual, but not for the past couple of years.
So yeah.

Also... sorry for that extensive weather report... I'm studying Geography and Climatology is my favourite part of it :D

No worries. When it comes to papers, I've found that the best bet isn't necessarily to look and look until I find a topic I like, but to latch onto the first thing that comes my way that seems easy to understand and research for. I haven't personally liked writing a single paper I've done, but by focusing myself on something early I can generally rein myself in to make good progress. Regardless, with any luck a muse will strike you soon enough.

@Lugubrious As of this moment, my first preference for an university course has been locked into Engineering (Honours) and Science at Monash University. After an entire month of arguing myself whether to go there or to go to Melbourne, I'm finally free of it.

Even if we're not completely confident in our decisions, it's nice to just rip the bandage off and put the uncertainty of the choice behind us. I hope everything works out for you.

A steady stream of heroes arrived and made their way through the portal to the first world in need of help. Slayer, though giving only a cursory glance at each one, swelled with pride for the first time to know that he formed a part of this gallant crew. The excitement caused a smile to appear on his face. When his team assembled and the time came to depart alongside the others, he waited for Ezio, Crash, and the Hunter to put their best feet forward into the unknown before making to join the expression. He stopped for a moment to glance at the group's oddball chef when it spoke to him in reply, tilting his head ever-so-slightly when it warned against him feeling scared. ”Never fear, my young friend. Not a trace of doubt afflicts my heart. I shall be sure to bring my pipe along.” To make especially sure, he clenched it between his teeth as he ran his fingers through his hair and stepped into the portal.

Just as it had for the others, the sight of a forest greeted him upon arrival. He emerged into the middle of a cross-team conversation of which Edward Buck, the soldier chosen to be the courageous taskforce's squad leader, was in charge. Reasoning that Crash would represent him if he partook in the exchange, Slayer turned his attention elsewhere. The gloomy woodland that stood in rather ominous serenity in every direction betrayed little about the world. The suddenness with which he -and by extension the rest of the heroes- were thrust into this world made him wonder if the Seven had some sort of contact with which everyone might rendezvous. The bulk of his past experience with such operations made it awfully likely, after all. With this in mind, Slayer folded his arms and waited, and in the background the conversation went on. Despite his respect for the latent power of Quinoa, he did not think twice about tuning out its lengthy discourse on mushrooms.

The vampire did not have time to grow disappointed. Slayer became aware of a noise that became louder at a steady rate. A tremor beneath his feet, beating in time to the sound, informed him that it belonged to something large, heavy, and headed right for him. Attuning himself to the disturbance, Slayer watched the trees with eyes peeled, and before he expected it to, something appeared from the foliage. Rather than something huge and intimidating, however, it appeared to be a lady in armor. The unanticipated guest took on the semblance of a vanguard, scout, or honor guard in Slayer's mind, so with curiosity piqued he observed the arrival of more valkyries, and before long their superior made himself known. From the greenery emerged a humungous man that instantly made Slayer's gorge rise. His ludicrous proportions, with each inch of skin almost disgustingly overmuscular, coupled with the fact that he wore less clothes than a pro wrestler, made the vampire's eyebrows furrow and mouth curve into a tight frown. Furthermore, the giant's eyes glowed a lustrous, caustic red, which in Slayer's experience typically signified that their owner was evil. Nevertheless, he stayed his hand even as the swollen barbarian glutted himself with drink, and listened.

All things considered, Brigan's dissatisfaction with the heroes could be expected. Slayer knew, and not just because he was with them, that this crew was impressive to look upon. The giant's disdain spoke of an ego that only considered himself to be worthy of respect. The seconds slipped by as General Brigan explained the heroes' situation to them, giving a workable approximation of the region, their objectives, and so forth. Satisfied with the information, Slayer gave his pipe a puff and glanced at Crash to hear what the Bandicoot had to say through his interpreter. Aku Aku communicated a plan that Slayer could find no reasonable qualms with, but he couldn't say that he liked it, either. When the mask asked for any objections, the gentleman spoke up first. 'If I may, I have a suggestion. I do not require sleep, and we do not all need be present to learn from our new friends. I submit for your consideration that I explore the surrounding area. Of course, I will be quiet and avoid any confrontation. To remain behind would bore me, to put it simply.” He wondered what the area had in store. To hear about monsters was one thing, but to see them in the flesh would be far more interesting.

Announcement

So, officially: welcome to another year of Heroes of Beacon! We've been going for more than two and a half years now. I'm continuously struck by how a dumbo like me managed to attract and keep so much talent, and to woo so many newcomers. Thank you all for making this one of the best RPs on the site.

There are a few things I'd like to call attention to. Firstly, it's all of you. How are you? What're you up to? I'd be glad to hear from you about things other than HOB, though since this checkup also doubles as a role call and status check, I'd appreciate a comment or two related to what's what for you in the RP.

Secondly, I have decided to move the RP along. Hear me out: given the whole non-continuity of time in the RP, if you're still doing something important, it can continue to be done, whether in a separate post or in a division of your regular posts. However, the bunches of people left without much to do (and for quite some time now, for some of you) have been neglected, and I think it's time we all got back into the mix. On Friday, I am going to write a post kicking off the events occurring for IC Monday. Beacon's day off will be filled with all sorts of events like the great race, the wrestling tournament, the party in the evening, and of course, it's also bring-your-family-to-school day. I've been looking forward to this stuff for some time.

So overall, the next chapter of Heroes of Beacon is about to begin--and with any luck it'll be one that everyone can participate in and enjoy. If you have any questions or concerns, I'll hear them out and potentially alter the plan.

Thanks again for your dedication to the RP! I know this year will be better than the last.
